Meet Our Director!
Tara Beth Weintraub
A little bit about me....
My love for teaching began at age seventeen with my first experience as an educator. It has always been a privilege to help students find their passion and give them the opportunity to grow and mature as both artists and individuals. This educational evolution is guided and nurtured by a teacher and mentor, a responsibility which should never be taken lightly. My theatre teachers shaped me as a student, an actor, a director, as an educator and as a person. They took my love for theatre and turned it into pure passion. This ability to engage and inspire a student is paramount at every level of study. The educators that had the most profound impact on me shared this same spark, this pure passion for their art and for teaching. In making learning both challenging and exciting, they inspired me to push myself academically and become the best that I could possibly be.
I know that education is not only set in a classroom, but in a rehearsal and in student-mentor relationships. I see every class, every conversation, and every rehearsal as an educational opportunity. I fully recognize that the process is just as important as the product. I further believe that if a student takes a journey and has the guidance to understand each step and turn along the way, they will ultimately reach their own personal potential. My guidance throughout the process allows students to experiment and learn from their mistakes, yet helps redirect them when in need. Many things are best learned through personal experience. I want to help guide my students through all of these challenges, as a mentor, giving them the chance to make their own discoveries and overcome obstacles. I begin every single day of class striving to become that guide and educator.
In 2011, I received my Master of Arts degree in Theatre (concentration in Acting/Directing) from Binghamton University in New York. In 2015, I earned my Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Pedagogy: Acting/ Directing from Virginia Commonwealth University. I also served as a faculty member, teaching multiple levels of Acting, Directing, Devised Theatre, and Effective Speech courses.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, I have directed and taught with numerous children's theatres, secondary schools, and professional companies in the Atlanta and Savannah areas. I am a currently a certified Georgia Educator (Drama P-12), as well as a member of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC), Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), and South Eastern Theatre Conference (SETC). I am also a Certified Classroom Educator with The Academy of Orton-Gillingham. In 2012, I had the privilege of co-founding and artistic directing The Good Works Theatre Festival.
