The Crucible 7:00 p.m. on October 17 & 18, 2014 at CHHS By Arthur Miller “The Crucible” is a play about the witch trials in Salem. It begins with a young girl who is unable to move in her bed. The villagers suspect witchcraft but they do not know that the night before all the girls in the village sneaked out to the woods where they made a potion, with the help of black slave, Titchuba, to let them have the man they love. It was fine until one girl, Abigail, went too far and wished death on the wife of the man she desired, John Proctor. The girls went crazy, dancing and stripping but then Abigail's uncle walks in and finds them. This is the real reason the girl is unable to move, fear. The girls then turn on the rest of the village and blame them for the witchcraft. Collins Hill Theatre performed "The Crucible" as a one-act on October 17-18 at CHHS and on October 22 at the Gwinnett County One Act competition at the Gwinnett Civic Center; where they placed fifth. A Midsummer Night’s Dream 7:00 p.m. on November 13 & 15, 2014 at CHHS
By William Shakespeare “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” William Shakespeare's most popular comedy, was written around 1594 or 95. It portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder - it's about the world's most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all. CHHS Theatre performed this epic comedy in steampunk. |
